Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav(MGMG) programme is a farm-centric mission translating knowledge at farmer’s doorstep so as to address his farm-oriented problems in a holistic manner to accomplish livelihood security. Cutting across all disciplines, farm problems are diagnosed and effective solutions are delivered and showcased in farmer’s field. Synergistic interaction among stakeholders operational in the village could be interlinked to solve farmers’ issue by the scientist concerned. National priorities such as secondary agriculture, climate change, good agricultural practices, and soil and health management of crops are envisaged in this programme. A total of three villages were selected for existing two Scientists of this centre.  MGMG activities have been initiated during October 2015 at the Research Centre. Salient activities

During this quarter, this centre continued the interaction with the farming community of three selected villages on agriculture and allied field via direct (face to face contact) and indirect (phone call/ messages) mode communication, at regular interval. Organized few meetings/training programmes for the benefit of farming community as given below.

Some highlights of this quarter are as follows:

A farmers’ meet was conducted in Pradhanpara village. Discussion was focused according to the present essence of farmers. The covered topics includes recovering the fruit set, artificial pollination techniques, leaf curl disease of cucurbits (such as snake gourd, bitter gourd and ash gourd) and disease of poultry birds.

In Kudipara village, a farmers’ camp was organized to make aware on rearing poultry birds for more income generation. Mr. Saibal Gupta expert on poultry of West Bengal State Poultry and Duckery Farm, Mohitnagar delivered a lecture on poultry rearing particularly ReRhode Island Red bred in Kudipara village. Farmers were encouraged on back yard poultry for better livelihood. However, some of the discussion was made on problems of summer and Kharif season crops and SRI methods of plantation.

At South Matiali, a farmers’ meet was arranged to: contact the farming community of the village; organize meeting with farmers and discussion of problems of cultivation of different crops grown in the village; discuss on SRI methods of paddy transplanting and to make awareness on this method; and also, demonstrate the raising of black pepper cuttings and to grow it as mixed crops with arecanut and coconut. Discussion was also made on line transplanting of paddy and use of farm machinery like wheel hoe, weeder and so on.

Salient activities

At regular interval this centre interacted with the farming community of three selected villages on agriculture and allied field along with other organization like State Horticulture Department, Fishery Department and KVK. Discussion was made on problems of existing crops like vegetables, arecanut, coconut and other crops and also planning for next summer season crops like vegetables and jute cultivation. Use of bio control agent like Trichoderma viridii in crop cultivation was clearly demonstrated to the farmers. Importance of vermicompost and vermiwash in agriculture was spelled out and encouragement was given on its production and application to crops. The farmers were encouraged on adoption of INM and IPM practices to reduce the environmental and health hazards. It was also discussed on time of application of pesticide and harvesting of the crop to avoid residual effect of the chemicals to the marketable crop. Crop diversification in plantation garden with black pepper and betel vine for better livelihood was also discussed during the meetings.  Basic requirements like seed treatment, application of more organic, recycling of farm waste, drainage facilities and irrigation for perennial crops, judicial use of plant nutrients like macro and micro nutrients was discussed during the farmers meet in three villages.
