Kasaragod, 28 September 2026: Mrs. Deepa D. Nair, newly appointed CEO, Coconut Development Board (CDB), visited the ICAR–Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (ICAR–CPCRI), Kasaragod, on 28 September 2026. She held an interaction with Dr. K. B. Hebbar, Director, ICAR–CPCRI, and scientists of the Institute and discussed key priorities for strengthening the coconut sector.

During the visit, scientists demonstrated the scaffolding structure for directly observing the growth parameters, High density planting method-Pentagon method of cinnamon as intercrop in coconut garden, Kalpa Smart Pole and precision farming systems developed at ICAR–CPCRI, and witnessed the Institute's ongoing research and technological innovations.

During the interaction, she emphasized the need for a long-term research plan, with priority on tissue culture, precision farming, value addition, AI-based extension and quality planting materials. She also highlighted the importance of international exposure for young scientists and technology-based asset creation.

Discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration in carbon-credit initiatives, emission reduction, tackling climate change implications especially El Nino, technology commercialization and value addition. The visit concluded with a commitment to strengthen institutional collaboration between CDB and ICAR–CPCRI for sustainable coconut development and improved farmer livelihoods. During the interaction with the farmers and officials of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Mrs Nair released the Palm Top Cocosap Concentrator technology.
