As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026, a cleanliness and awareness drive were conductedon 26^th September 2026 at the premises ofICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod, including the area adjoining the railway track. The programme intended to promote cleanliness, proper waste management, environmental responsibility, and the adoption of eco-friendly and zero-waste practices within and around CPCRI campus.An awareness lecture was organized for the SCSP and TSP trainees, focusing on the importance of cleanliness, sanitation, personal hygiene, and importance of segregation of waste, responsible waste managementetc. The participants were sensitized to the adverse environmental impacts of plastic waste and the need to minimize the use of single-use plastics. They were encouraged to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives and incorporate responsible waste-management practices into their daily lives.

The cleanliness drive focused on the office premises and the ATIC side of ICAR-CPCRI, with activities including the removal of litter and accumulated waste, cleaning of surroundings, and promoting the proper collection, segregation, and disposal of waste. Special attention was given to the area adjoining the railway track, which was cleaned to remove avoidable litter and maintain a hygienic environment.The area in front of the ICAR-CPCRI KV School was identified as one of the most litter-prone locations on the campus, and separate bins for biodegradable and plastic waste were installed to facilitate source segregation and discourage indiscriminate littering.

The Scientific, Technical, Administrative and Contractual staff of ICAR-CPCRIeagerly participated in the cleanliness activities and contributed to the successful implementation of the programme. The collective effort demonstrated the importance of community participation in maintaining clean and healthy institutional surroundings.

The programme reinforced the message that cleanliness, waste reduction and environmental stewardship are shared responsibilities. It encouraged staff and trainees to minimize waste generation, avoid littering, practice source segregation, and continue adopting eco-friendly and zero-waste approaches in offices, institutional buildings and their surrounding areas.
