A Farmer’s Meet on “Balanced Fertilizer Use in Coconut and Arecanut” was organized at Kuttikkol, Kuttikkol Gram Panchayat, Kasaragod, by the team of ICAR–Central Plantation Crops Research Institute Kasaragod, comprising of Dr Jayasekhar S., Dr Mahendran, B., and Dr. Benjamin Mathew. The programme witnessed the gracious presence of Smt. Shobhana Kumari, President, Kuttikkol Gram Panchayat.
The meet saw active participation from a total of 103 farmers, including 93 male and 10 female farmers from the locality. The programme aimed at creating awareness on the importance of balanced and scientific fertilizer application in coconut and arecanut cultivation to enhance productivity and maintain long-term soil health.
During the programme, experts delivered technical sessions emphasizing the role of soil test–based nutrient management, proper dosage and timing of fertilizer application, and the integration of organic and inorganic nutrient sources. Practical recommendations were provided to improve nutrient use efficiency in coconut and arecanut gardens while minimizing input costs and environmental impact.
Interactive discussions were held where farmers shared their field-level challenges related to nutrient deficiencies, fertilizer practices, and crop performance. The scientists addressed these concerns and suggested suitable, location-specific solutions for improving yield and soil fertility. The meeting concluded with a strong message on adopting balanced fertilization as a key strategy for improving coconut and arecanut productivity and ensuring long-term soil health.
