Khet Bachao Abhiyan

Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme was organized at EMS Hall, Kollada, Kaattippoyil, Kasaragod on 23rd June, 2026. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ravi Bhat, Principal Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod; Dr. Hima John, Scientist (AS&PE), ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod; and Dr. Kiranmoy Patra, SMS (Agronomy), ICAR-CPCRI KVK. The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Mercy Mani, President, East Eleri Grama Panchayat. The presidential address was delivered by Mr. T. V. Chandran, Kaattippoyil Coconut Producers Group. Felicitations were offered by Mr. N. V. Shivadas, Smt. Sathidevi, and Smt. Sindhu Tomy, Members of East Eleri Grama Panchayat, and Mr. B. N. Jayaprakash, Assistant Agricultural Officer, Krishi Bhavan, Chittarikkal. The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Ravi Bhat, Principal Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR-CPCRI; Dr. Benjamin Mathew, SMS (Horticulture), ICAR-CPCRI KVK; Dr. Prathibha P. S., Senior Scientist (Entomology), ICAR-CPCRI; Dr. Hima John, Scientist (Food Processing), ICAR-CPCRI; and Dr. Kiranmoy Patra, SMS (Agronomy), ICAR-CPCRI KVK. The resource persons interacted extensively with the participants on the importance of balanced and scientific nutrient management practices for enhancing crop productivity and sustaining soil health, pest and disease management in coconut and arecanut, value addition in coconut and other plantation crops, and technologies developed by ICAR-CPCRI for increasing farmers’ income. Information on efficient use of water also was given in light of delayed monsoon. Detailed discussions were held on soil test-based integrated nutrient management, including the appropriate time and method of fertilizer application, techniques to improve nutrient-use efficiency, and other scientific management practices. The participants actively engaged in the discussions and sought clarifications on various crop production and protection issues. Booklets on coconut cultivation and leaflets on pest and disease management in coconut and arecanut were distributed to the participants. A total of 100 farmers, including 14 women and 86 men, attended the programme and benefited from the technical sessions and interactions. The scientific team also visited a dragon fruit farm in the locality and interacted with the farmer regarding cultivation practices and field-level challenges. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Srinivasan, Vice President, Kaattippoyil Coconut Producers Group. All the participants expressed their satisfaction and appreciation for the programme, highlighting the usefulness of the technical information and interactive discussions. The programme successfully strengthened farmers’ knowledge on scientific crop management practices and the technologies available for improving productivity, profitability, and sustainability in plantation crop cultivation.
