World coconut day was celebrated on 2^nd September, 2025 at ICAR-CPCRI, RC, Mohitnagar with the presence of District Horticulture Officer (Jalpaiguri) and District Development Manager-NABARD (Jalpaiguri). A total of 100 farmers, BOD of different FPC attended the programme. Dr. Alok Mandal, Deputy Director of Horticulture emphasized on importance of coconut on livelihood of the farming community. He also elaborated the coconut based cropping system on increased productivity of the system. Sri Ranadip Majhi, DDM (NABARD) highlighted on different coconut-based food and other products where the unemployed youth can find the employment. Dr. Arun Kumar Sit, Principal Scientist and Scientist in Charge delivered the lecture on health benefits of coconut and its products, how to grow coconut for sustainable income, pests and diseases occurrence and their effective control measures. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks and the National Anthem. After the programme, a field visit was conducted for the farmers along with the Guests. At the end, coconut seedlings were distributed (two seedling/participant) among the participants belongs to scheduled caste community under the Head of SCSP. The whole programme was coordinated by Dr. Arun Kumar Sit, Scientist in Charge and assisted by Dr. Sandip Shil, Senior Scientist and Dr. Avrajyoti Ghosh, CTO, Sri Prakash Barman (Sr. Technician) and Jagadish Roy (TO). Whole programme was covered by AIR-Siliguri and Doordarshan-Kisan Channel and local news channel.
