PM Kisan interaction programme held at CPCRI Kasaragod

ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod, along with its regional stations and centres jointly with its two KVKs at Kasaragod and Kayamkulam, celebrated the day as PM Kisan Utsav Diwas on 2nd August 2025.

PM Shri Narendra Modi said that the government is able to transfer this PM Kisan Samman Nidhi without any middlemen, directly to the farmer's bank account. So far, 1.75 lakh was also paid as PM Fasal Bima Yojana. The Lakhpati Didi programme has also benefited rural women. PM also called for strengthening Vocal4Local production to overcome trade-related global influences on prices.

Shri NA Nellikunnu, MLA, Kasaragod, was the chief guest of the interaction programme at CPCRI, Kasaragod. He inaugurated the interaction programme and greeted CPCRI for its farmer-friendly approaches. He congratulated the farmers for getting the benefits of Kisan Samman Nidhi of Rs 2000/-. He also correlated the importance of research under the climate change scenario and the growing challenges due to climate change, leading to frequent agricultural losses, and stressed the role of agricultural technologies in supporting farmers. He urged the gathering to promote farming among the younger generation along with their study and experience the happiness of farming. The Hon’ble MLA also addressed the gathering, expressing appreciation for the government’s initiatives and reaffirming the relevance of the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.

In his presidential address, Dr. K.B. Hebbar emphasised that natural farming is helpful to tackle climate-related atrocities like whitefly. He emphasised the importance of climate-resilient farming practices and the need for technology-driven solutions, many of which are being developed and promoted by ICAR-CPCRI. He said that the carbon credit includes both absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide and also reducing emissions from the farmland. Coconut and arecanut-based systems will be the best carbon credit systems.

Deputy Director of Athma, Mrs. Suma felicitating the gathering, provided insights into the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, explaining the process through which beneficiaries receive financial support under the initiative and invited many more to join the scheme.

Earlier, Dr. Benjamin Mathew, SMS, KVK, conducted an interactive session with farmers and students focusing on 'Scope of natural farming in Kasaragod district'. The discussion emphasized the importance of soil coverage through crop cultivation and the role of crop diversification in enhancing sustainability. He elaborated on how these practices positively influence soil structure, moisture retention, and temperature regulation, which are critical to maintaining soil health.

Later on in the day, a demonstration of on-farm natural farming product preparation, such as Jeevamrutha, Neemastra and Brahmastra, was made for the farmers.

Dr K. Ponnusamy, Head Social Sciences, welcomed the gathering and Dr TS Manojkumar, Head, KVK Kasaragod proposed a vote of thanks.
