Shri K. P. Mohanan, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Kerala State, inaugurated the valedictory function held at CPCRI, Kasaragod on 6^th September 2012. Adv. Smt. P.P. Shyamaladevi, President, Kasaragod District Panchayat, presided over the valedictory function. Shri K.P.Mohanan, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture distributed prizes to winners of various competitions and handed over the safety devices to selected coconut climbers. In his inaugural address, Shri Mohanan hailed the contributions of CPCRI for the development of coconut sector through its research achievements. The minister and other guests visited the Agro Processing Complex at the Institute. Dr. George V. Thomas, Director, CPCRI welcomed the gathering and Dr. K. Muralidharan, Head, Division of Social Sciences proposed vote of thanks.

Various programmes were conducted as part of World Coconut Day celebration at Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod. National level Essay Writing Competition for under graduate BSc (Agri)/BSc(Horti) students on the theme ‘Inclusive growth and sustainable development of coconut sector in India’ painting competition for school children, quiz competition for Vocation Higher Secondary (Agri) students,  quiz competition for rural youth trained on coconut climbing using mechanical device, demonstration on safety device for coconut climbing device and interface programme on coconut farming involving scientists, farmers and coconut climbers were organised as part of coconut day celebrations.
