Library

CPCRI has inherited one of the oldest research bases in coconut and a rich collection of literature pertaining to the plantation crops. The books and periodicals available at Quilon during the scheme for the investigation of different diseases of coconut were transferred to Kayangulam and a librarian was posted in charge of the library in 1958.
The libraries at the HQ and Regional Stations have obtained books from the erstwhile CCRS and qualified librarians were posted into service in the sixties. After 1960, the library had attained remarkable growth.

Functions

To develop and maintain a modern scientific and technical library devoted to plantation crops specifically on coconut, cocoa, arecanut and its related disciplines.

To acquire and build up a wide range of publications including books, monographs, treatises, reference books, journals, conference papers, proceedings, scientific and technical reports, CD-ROM and other digital media.

To organize the information resources in a systematic manner by adopting standard and effective methods for information storage and retrieval.

To provide information services for the user community by adopting information technology techni¬ques.

To maintain liaison with other local, national and international information centres for exchange of information.

To supply copies of available docu¬ments in the information centre.

To serve as a national clearing house for information on mandatory crops and its allied branches.
