ICAR CPCRI – ‘Farmer FIRST program’ farmers participated in National Workshop ‘Let us listen to Farmers: A workshop on farmer’s feedback on doubling farm income by 2022’

A National – level dialogue on ‘Let us listen to Farmers: A workshop on farmer’s feedback on doubling farm income by 2022’ was organized during December 22-23, 2017 at NAARM, Hyderabad. A total of 140 farmers from 25 states participated in the workshop. The FFP participant farmers representing the category of landless/marginal/small/medium and large farmers from each FFP attended the workshop and shared their views. Mr. Jageshkumar, Mr. D.Sreekumar, Mr. Gopalakrishnapillai, Mrs. Raji.K and Mrs. Indira from ICAR CPCRI FFP attended and shared their views about the program components as well as their suggestions for doubling farmers’ income. There were 4 technical sessions and our group was in the session attended by PIs, Co PIs and representative farmers of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Chhattisgarh. The major suggestions for doubling farm income put forward by the farmers were accelerating integrated farming system with more components, making new and HYV available to farmers, readily accessible extension services, promoting commercial fisheries among youths, farmer innovations to be considered and due recognition to be given.

In the face to face interaction of FFP farmers with Hon. Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat ji at NAARM, Mr. Jageshkumar from ICAR CPCRI represented Kerala and his view points were appreciated as a representative of rural educated youth. Dr. P. Anithakumari, Principal Scientist & PI and Dr. Merin Babu, Scientist & Co PI also participated in the deliberations. The valedictory function was inaugurated by Hon Minister and all the participated farmers were felicitated.

The workshop was a great opportunity to the FFP farmers to share their ideas, interact with officials, experts and progressive farmers across the Nation to learn and get empowered.
