ICAR-CPCRI Kayamkulam observed International Yoga Day on 21-06-2016

International Yoga Day-2016 was observed at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 21-06-2016 at 3.00 pm with a thought provoking lecture on the basics of yogic sciences and a practical demonstration of Yoga session attended by all scientists, officers and staff.

In his presidential address, Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head called upon all fellow colleagues to make yoga an integral part of life to tide over all lifestyle diseases. He urged to embrace yoga for leading a hale, healthy and gleeful life ushering universal peace. He emphasized yoga as the gift to the world by India, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.  

Dr. EMG Nair, Founder and Chief Acharya, Pathanjali Pranayoga Vidyapeedom, Kottayam was the chief guest and he inaugurated the session by lighting the lamp. In his illuminating inaugural address, he pointed out the importance of yoga for basic well being of mankind. He emphasized on the science of hormonal regulation in humans well coordinated through practicing yoga in a perfect and routine manner. He proclaimed yoga as the sole remedy for all psychosomatic disorders faced by humans due to increased lifestyle stresses. He also stressed “Yoga” in essence is the integration of body, mind and intellect with the self, for leading a truthful and peaceful life.

This was followed by demonstration of at least 15 yoga asanas including the invocation chant by the chief guest and well practiced by all scientists and staff in a meticulous manner. The chief guest was extremely pleased with the yoga performance by ICAR-CPCRI fraternity. Sri. K.N. Sajeev, Skilled support staff served as the master trainer for the yoga demonstration programme and yoga has been routinely practiced by all his family members. He was felicitated by ICAR-CPCRI with a memento on this unique feat.

The yoga day celebrations commenced with the ICAR theme song and concluded with National Anthem. Sri Pradeep Kumar Vasu, AAO welcomed the gathering and Dr. G. Rajeev, ACTO proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Merin Babu, Scientist served as the coordinator of the programme.
