LAUNCHING OF CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS OF CPCRI

Centenary celebrations of CPCRI will be launched on 12th  March 2016 at 11 AM at CPCRI, Kasaragod.  Dr. N.K. Krishnakumar, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Sciences), ICAR, New Delhi will inaugurate the launching programme in which, Shri S.R. Sathishchandra, President, CAMPCO, Mangaluru will deliver a keynote address. Shri Konkodi Padmanabha, former President of CAMPCO, will be the guest of honour. Directors from the different institutes of ICAR, officials from State Bank of India, Kerala Gramin Bank, NABARD, Kerala Agricultural University and Dept. of Agriculture, Kerala will also take part in the launching programme.

Planting of 100 coconut seedllings of 18 released varieties of CPCRI by farmers at a time to establish a “Centenary Coconut Park” is a unique feature of the launching besides, a Kisan Mela and an exhibition. Books entitled "CPCRI - a century of service to the nation", "Empowering Stakeholders", comprising 100 planned programmes across the nation  and "Diseases of Field and Horticultural Crops" will be released. A special chocolate “Kalpa Choco”, made out of coconut sugar, organic products “Kalpa Organic Gold” and “Kalpa Soil Care” also will be released during the function. A Painting of “Shri P.S. Punichithaya’s impressions on the 100 years journey of CPCRI”, and “Centenary logo of CPCRI” will also be unveiled during the occasion.

Various ICAR institutes of Horticulture and Fisheries and the KVKs and SHGs will participate in the exhibition for the benefit of farmers. Registration of participants for the programme will start from 8:30 AM near the venue near Eriyal side South Gate of CPCRI. Refreshments and lunch for the registered participants will be provided at the venue. It is expected that 3000 to 4000 participants will be participating in the function. After this one-day launching ceremony, a series of 100 programmes across the country are planned as part of centenary celebrations. CPCRI is planning for coconut genome sequencing, release of 25 books and 100 other publications and also planning to culminate the celebrations in December, 2016, with an International Conference on Coconut Research and Development.
