Title of the programme: Training programme on cocoa

Objective of the programme: To highlight the prospects of cocoa cultivation in Assam

Details of the programme conducted: A training programme on cocoa was conducted on 30.09.15. Fifty numbers of farmers from Chaygoan, Nahira and Rampur village of Kamrup (Rural) district participated in the training programme. The programme started with the welcoming address by Dr. L.S.Singh, Programme co-ordinator and facilitation of the chief guest. Dr. A. K. Gogoi, Scientist-In-Charge, gave brief introductory notes about CPCRI, Research Centre, Kahikuchi. Dr. Sailen Gogoi, Principal Scientist, chief guest of the day had highlighted the prospects of cocoa cultivation in Assam condition. The technical session began with the pre-training evaluation of the farmers. Dr. L.S.Singh and Mr. Anok Uchoi, Scientist, CPCRI, RC, Kahikuchi gave details information about the scientific cultivation and processing technique of cocoa. After the technical programme, field demonstration was done to show the cultivation practices like pruning, fertilizer application and diseases and pest management. The training ended with post-training evaluation and farmers – scientist interaction. 

Outcome/Impact: To check the impact of training on farmers, pre and post training evaluation was done by giving 11 questions related to cocoa cultivation and processing. It was found that 90 % of the farmers could answer 60-70% of the questions after training which was not possible during pre-training evaluation.

Remarks: The impact of training programme was found to be positive on farmers knowledge and skill development and further training programme can be made to encourage the farmers on cocoa cultivation.
