Paddy harvest festival organized at Muttar under NICRA project

Harvest festival of the technology demonstration on ‘Resource conserving and eco friendly technologies in paddy’ under the ‘National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture’ project being implemented by KVK – Alappuzha at Muttar village of Kuttanad taluk was conducted on 19.03.2015. Dr. P. Chowdappa, Director, CPCRI, Kasaragod inaugurated the harvest festival at Paruthikkattuserry padasekharam followed by a public meeting at Kochukodungalloorkavu Devaswam Hall, Muttar. Dr. P. Chowdappa appreciated the efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and partner farmers of Muttar for effectively implementing technology demonstrations on climate resilient practices in paddy and other crops for the benefit of the farmers of Kuttanad region. Smt. Laila Raju, President, Muttar Panchayath presided over the function in which Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head, CPCRI (RS), Kayamkulam, Dr. P. Muralidharan, Programme Coordinator, KVK –Alappuzha, Sri. P. V. Sukumaran, Vice president, Muttar Panchayath, Smt. K. Meena, Deputy Project Director, ATMA Alappuzha District, Sri. Madhu George Mathai, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Veliyanad, Sri. Srikumara Panikkar, Agricultural Officer, Muttar, M. S. Rajeev, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK addressed the gathering.  Resource conserving and eco friendly technologies for paddy cultivation such as, soil test based dolomite and fertilizer application, sowing of seeds using drum seeder, and eco-friendly pest and disease management practices using bio agents (pseudomonas, trichocards) were demonstrated as a package in this demonstration programme which covered 30 hectare area involving 38 farmers from different padasekharams of the panchayath. Sri. N.K. Venugopal, Sri. Alexander Antony and Sri. P. A. Thomas, partner farmers of the demonstration shared their experiences. About 200 farmers attended the programme.  An exhibition highlighting the project activities and conventional agricultural implements which were used in Kuttanad also was arranged on the occasion.
