Seminar cum Interface programme on “Integrated family farming – for nutritional and food security”

Krishi Vigyan Kendra – Alappuzha conducted a seminar cum interface on Integrated Family Farming for Nutritional and Food security at Sreemoolam Town Hall, Ambalappuzha on 06.02.2015. The programme was inaugurated by the District panchayath president Adv. U Prathibha Hari by handing over a tray of 11 types of vegetable seedlings to a family. In her inaugural address she emphasized the need for food and nutritional security among the family and community. She urged the KVK, local self government agencies and department of agriculture to work together for achieving food and nutritional security in the district. New inputs  for the benefits of farmers like Fish aminoacid (Sasyamithra) and EM solution (Haritham) and value added Virgin coconut oil were released on the occasion by the chief guest. Smt. Sathy S. Nath, president, Ambalapuzha South Grama panchayth presided the function in which Smt. Neena Raphel, Project Director, ATMA and Mr. Sasikumar, Member, Ambalapuzha South Grama panchayth offered felicitations. Dr. Renjan S. Karippai, Prof and Head, KVK –Thrissur led the Seminar and interface in which Dr. P. Muralidharan, Dr. Jalaja S. Menon, Dr. Prameela, Dr. Sheeja Thomachan, Dr. Vishnu Savath, Dr. S. Ravi, Dr. K Sajnanath, Rajeev M.S, Lekha G and Jissy George interacted with farmers. Smt. Radhamani Amma, Smt.  Mini Kunjumon, and Sri. P A Thomas, who adopt model Integrated Farming Systems shared their farming experiences in the interface programme. Dr. P. Muralidharan, Programme Coordinator, KVK – Alappuzha welcomed the gathering and Rajeev M S, SMS (Agronomy) proposed the vote of thanks.  About 120 farmers from the district actively participated in the seminar.

Training cum Awareness programme on Protection of plant varieties and farmer’s right act

KVK Alappuzha in association with ATMA Alappuzha conducted a training cum awareness programme on Protection of plant varieties and farmer’s right act at Sreemoolam Town Hall, Ambalappuzha on 07.02.2015. The programme was funded by Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right’s Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. Smt B. Sulekha, President, Ambalapuzha block panchayth inaugurated the awareness programme in which Sri. Dhyanasuthan, President, Ambalapuzha South Grama panchayth presided. Smt. Sulekha pointed out the importance of agriculture and protecting the indigenous varieties for the benefit of farmers. Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head, CPCRI (RS), Kayamkulam delivered the keynote address. Dr. S. Rajeena, Head, Farming System Research Station, Kottarakkara, KAU, delivered a lecture on ‘PPVFR act and farmers’ rights and Dr. Reji Jacob Thomas, Senior Scientist, CPCRI delivered a lecture on ‘Guidelines for registration of farmers varieties and community genome savier awards’. Sri. Thomas, Secretary, Kadamakkudi – Varappuzha Pokkali organic farmers ICS was facilitated in the meeting and he narrated the experience of his community receiving the award. Smt. K. Meena, Deputy Project Director, ATMA offered facilitations. Dr. P. Muralidharan, Programme Coordinator, KVK – Alappuzha welcomed the gathering and Dr. K. Sajnanth, SMS (Soil Science) proposed the vote of thanks.  About 100 farmers from the district attended the seminar.
