Stakeholders Workshop at Pathiyooor Gramapanchayat on 26-11-2016

Stakeholders Workshop was organized, converging partners in Agricultural Development and Farmers’ Welfare in Pathiyoor Grama Panchayat on 26-11-2016 under the Farmers FIRST programme of ICAR. As the Grama Panchayat selected under the ambit of ICAR-CPCRI, an inclusive farming development through participatory research in the Pathiyoor Grama Panchayat is being highlighted in the Stakeholders Workshop. The workshop was presided by Mr. V. Prabhakaran, Panchayath President and all 19 panchayath members, representatives of Coconut producers societies and federations, padasekhara samithy office bearers, farmer leaders of vegetable clusters, progressive animal husbandry farmers, women self help group office bearers, entrepreneurs, school teachers, farmers practicing  integrated farming systems, Head and scientists of ICAR-CPCRI and KVASU, extension officials of Department of Agriculture and farmers Welfare and Veterinary surgeon, fisheries department officials, NREGS officials and representatives, dairy farmers societies, farmers cooperative banks/ societies, women farmers , farm labourers and rural youths participated in the stakeholder workshop.

In his Presidential address Sri. Prabhakaran expressed happiness in having ICAR-CPCRI for the holistic development of the Grama Panchayat particularly in the farming sector. He exuded confidence in the successful implementation of the project and assured full co-operation for the Farmers FIRST Project. He opined that diversity in farming land, crop pluralism, mixed farming strategies including dairy and fishing component prevailing in the Panchayat will be innovatively integrated for accomplishing sustainable income to the farming community and enhancing profitability through value-addition.

In the workshop after presenting the outline of the FFP project and discussions, the participants were grouped into six, for eliciting their requirements and problems faced in improving the productivity and income of farming community. The groups ably facilitated by scientists, discussed and documented the research and extension gaps as well their aspirations on various modules such as, coconut based farming system, Horticulture based cropping system, Natural resource management, Livestock based, value addition and entrepreneurship, and integrated farming system. The problems were documented and prioritized with inputs from stakeholders. Dr. V. Krishnakumar , Head concluded the discussions and respective scientists presented the points for consensus, in each module. The workshop also decided to initiate a face book group for the FFP partners and participants, and a comprehensive launching programme highlighting the areas of the participatory research for development and capacity building of the farming community.
