World Water Day celebrated at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam


In commemoration of the World Water Day celebration, a special lecture on water literacy and the role of water on livelihood security was organized at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 22nd March 2016.   Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head, in his presidential address, emphasized the rationality and necessity of water management as the need of the hour for sustaining life in the planet. Sri. P.N. Premkumar, Joint Director (Retd.), Soil Survey and Soil Conservation, delivered the key note address. He outlined the general water scenario prevailing in the State of Kerala and called upon to utilize water judiciously by all sections of people.Though we are getting 3000 mm rainfall per annum, timely strategies are not being adopted for its judicious usage. Unscientific management of the ground water resources may trigger the faster depletion of available water from the earth. Adoption of watershed based development strategies can contribute to location specific sustainable development in an area. The consequences of the over exploitation of the water resource was also highlighted. A small video on the vision of the Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam on the probable water crisis during 2070 was also presented in the occasion. Dr. Regi Jacob Thomas, Principal Scientist welcomed the gathering and Dr. Jeena Mathew, Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.
