Centenary Celebrations- Farmer’s training conducted at Kayamkulam


A one-day training programme on “Advances in Pest Management in Coconut” was organized at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 24-03-2016 as part of Coconut Centenary Celebrations. Twenty-seven farmers from Kazhakuttam, Thiruvananthapuram participated in the programme fully sponsored by State Department of Agriculture Development and Farmer’s Welfare. Farmers were empowered on the research accomplishments of ICAR-CPCRI, pest management in coconut, disease diagnostics and suppression strategies as well as good management practices in coconut by Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head, Dr. Chandrika Mohan, PS, Dr. Merin Babu, Scientist and Dr. A. Joseph Rajkumar, PS, respectively.

Farmers were also taken to all experimental plots of ICAR-CPCRI especially the Kapa raksha plot as well as the ecological engineering concept displayed in Kalpa sankara garden. Later the team was provided hands on training on the disease diagnostics and mass production techniques of biocontrol agents. Coconut Information gallery was well enjoyed by the trainees.

In his valedictory address, Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head emphasized on the cutting edge technologies of scientific coconut farming to accomplish more productivity from per unit area in the dwindling cropping area scenario in the country. In the feedback session, farmers were overwhelmed by the knowledge acquired in the training programme and assured to disseminate the techniques learnt to other fellow farmers. Smt Sreekala, Agricultural Officer proposed the vote of thanks and Dr. Chandrika Mohan, PS served as the course director.
