Field day of the FLD on “Management of stem bleeding disease of coconut” conducted


KVK – Alappuzha conducted the field day of the front line demonstration on “ Management of stem bleeding disease of  coconut” on 16.01.16 at Karuvatta. The technology package for the disease management formulated by KVK – Alappuzha was demonstrated in 100 coconut palms in ward no.15 of Karuvatta Panchayath with the participation of 23 farmers during 2012 – 15.The management package included swabbing the lesions on the trunk with Trichoderma paste and basal application of lime @ 1 kg/palm/year followed by application of neem cake (5kg/palm/year) – organic manure (FYM/Vermicompost) mixture fortified with Trichoderma (1%) after two weeks of lime application.

Smt. Remya Remanan, Member of the Alappuzha District Panchayath inaugurated the programme in which Grama Panchayath Vice President Shri.Suresh Kalarikal, six Grama Panchayath members, Krishi Bhavan officials and office bearers of coconut producers’ federation attended. Dr.P.Muralidharan, Head, KVK, Alappuzha in his address emphasized the need of scientific management of coconut palms for enhancing the health and productivity of palms and the importance of popularizing the farmer friendly technologies to the whole panchayath through local self government schemes. Shri.Thomas Mathew, Shri. Purushothaman and Smt. Chandrika, partner farmers of the demonstration endorsed the effectiveness of the technology while sharing their experience. Smt. G. Lekha, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK led the interface on “Integrated pest, disease and nutrient management of coconut” conducted on the occasion. About 70 farmers participated in this programme.
