Kayamkulam co-hosts Sasthra Prathibha Matsaram-2015



ICAR-CPCRI co-hosted Sasthra Prathibha Matsaram-2015 (Science Talent Camp-2015) Level 2 camp at its Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 16-01-2016. Forty-five students studying (Class I-XI) from Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts of Kerala participated in the Science camp where churning of talents and igniting minds took place for the selection of twelve cream students to represent the State of Kerala  at National Level.  

Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head inaugurated the Science camp by lighting the lamp and delivered the inaugural address. He mooted the students to ask questions to understand mysteries of nature and understand science deeply for the development of technologies to cater the human need. In his key note address entitled “Stimulating Students through Science” Dr. A. Joseph Rajkumar, Pr. Scientist stressed upon the scientific temperament among students to attain success and opined on goal setting as topmost priority which need to be accomplished through hard work and sincerity. 

Evaluation of students through aptitude tests. logical reasoning, assessment of leadership and communication skills, project proposal and outcome were executed by Dr. Mary Thresa Miranda, Associate Professor and Head, Fatima Matha College, Kollam and a group of student volunteers. Sri E.R. Asokan, Senior Technical Assistant of the Regional Station enlightened the camp students on environmental-safe and eco-friendly approaches ensuring biodiversity conservation. Parents of the participating students were taken around the experimental fields as well as the dairy farm and were exposed on the strategies on the management of root (wilt) disease of coconut including techniques on coconut-based crop-habitat diversification model.  

In the evening, Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head, delivered the valedictory address and gave away certificates to all participating students. Dr. Miranda, Associate Professor offered the vote of thanks and the programme culminated with the National Anthem.
