‘World Soil Day’ celebrated at Aryad, Alappuzha


‘Conserve the soil and water around us by following good agricultural practices for eco-friendly farming, productivity enhancement, and a healthy society’ said Sri. K. C. Venugopal, Hon. Member of Parliament, Alappuzha. He was inaugurating the soil health card distribution programme as part of the ‘World Soil Day’ celebrations organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra –Alappuzha at Aryad Sansad Adarsh Gram. As part of the programme, representative geo-referenced soil samples from all the 18 wards of Aryad panchayath were collected and soil health cards prepared by analyzing for the important parameters in the KVK laboratory at Kayamkulam. Fertilizer recommendations based on the soil test for the major crops like coconut, banana, tubers, and turmeric were worked out and provided in the soil health cards distributed to 250 farmers of the panchayath. Prof. C. V. Natarajan, Ex. President, Aryad panchayath presided over the function in which newly elected Grama Panchayath members Sri. Manoj, Sri Ajikumar, Sri. Anilkumar, Smt Sheeja Shaju, Smt. Renuka, and Smt Resmi, Sri. Pushpangadan, President, Aryad farmers’ club, and Smt. Ambili, Agricultural Assistant, Krishi Bhavan, Aryad offered felicitations. An awareness talk on ‘Healthy soils for a healthy life’ was delivered by Dr. P. Muralidharan, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK – Alappuzha. Dr. K. Sajnanath, Sri. M S Rajeev, Smt. G. Lekha, and Dr. S Ravi, SMSs, KVK participated in the discussions followed. 105 farmers from all wards of the panchayath attended the programme.
