KVK-Alappuzha celebrated World Food Day at Aryad



ICAR-KVK–Alappuzha organised two different programmes at the Aryad Sansad Adarsh Grama Panchayath as part of the ‘World Food Day celebrations’on 16th October 2015.

An awareness programme on ‘Homestead cultivation of safe to eat vegetables for healthy life’ was organisedto members ofNature Club at Believers Church English Medium School, Gurupuram, Aryad. Dr. K. Sajnanath, SMS (Soil Science), KVK in his talk highlighted the potential danger of pesticide residues in vegetables brought from other states and stressed the importance and possibility of homestead cultivation of vegetables using locally available organic resources. More than 50 students and the staff members of the school attended the programme and interacted with the speaker. Sri. C.V. Issac, Principal and Smt. P. Jayanthi, Co-ordinator, Nature Club also spoke on the occasion. After the talk, the students were given orientation in the vegetable garden maintained by the nature club in 10 cents in the school campus. Kum. Megha, Head Girl of the school proposed the vote of thanks.

Another awareness programme was organised at the Krishibhavan, Aryad in which Smt. Jissy George, SMS (Home Science) delivered a talk on the ‘Importance of value addition of homestead fruits and vegetables’ in achieving food and nutritional security of households. More than 40 women representing different self help groups attended the programme. Smt. Sani George, Agrl. Officer also spoke on the occasion.
