ICAR Foundation Day celebrated on 16-07-2015 at the ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam

ICAR-CPCRI Regional Station, Kayamkulam celebrated ICAR Foundation Day in a befitting manner on 16-07-2015. Higher secondary school students (Plus 1 and 2) from nearby schools of the Institute were oriented about ICAR’s contribution in transforming India from ship to mouth existence to self-sufficiency in the field of agriculture. Dr Chandrika Mohan, Principal Scientist welcomed the gathering of students, teachers and parents. In his inaugural address, Dr V.Krishnakumar, Head, ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station highlighted the role students have to play in the field of agriculture and urged them to devote themselves for such a cause for the betterment of the nation. Dr P. Anithakumari, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension) and Dr Jeena Mathew, Scientist (Soil Science) delivered special lectures on “ICAR’s contribution towards food security of the nation” as well as “Soil care for sustainable food production”, respectively.  Elocution and quiz competitions were conducted for the students on the theme “Healthy soil for healthy life” in commemoration with International year of soils-2015. Furthermore, a quiz contest was also conducted for Technical and Skilled Support Staff of the Regional Station about ICAR and Plantation crops. 

In the valedictory function, Dr. P.M. Jacob, (Former Head), Chief Guest, stressed the need of the holistic management of soil and other resources to meet the ensuing food demand of the country. In his presidential address, Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head emphasized on the role of students towards shaping tomorrow’s agriculture in tune with ARYA and ASPIRE flagship programmes of ICAR. A poster on SOIL titled “Healthy soils, the foundation towards sustainability” was released on the occasion and prizes were distributed to the victorious students and staff. Dr S.Kalavathi, Principal Scientist welcomed the audience and Dr Josephrajkumar, Principal Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.
